I have been looking at keel guards for my boat. There are a couple of companies that sell what is basically a plastic strip that adheres to the keel, strakes or chines of a boat to prevent damage and wear while beaching onto sand, rocks or a boat ramp.
For a 20ft boat these kits cost about $200, you have to get it shipped and then spend a bunch of time installing the product or pay a shop extra to do so. From what I understand, if you don’t get it just right or the surface is not perfectly clean, the Keel Guard will not stay on all that well.
So why not use Armaguard Spray On Truck Bed Liner? We use it on all sorts of other industrial applications and there simply is nothing more flexible and durable. On a boat keep we don’t have to texture the liner, so it would have very little or no drag in the water. And I would expect it to be much stronger and durable than the current Keel Guard option.
Well, we just had a customer who had worn out the keel of their canoe. Instead of throwing it away he thought giving it the protection of an Armaguard Spray On Liner was worth a try.
It looks great and I am not sure why I did not think to give this a try earlier. So I am going to do my 20 foot power boat next and see how it stands up throughout the summer.
