In British Columbia, auto glass damage is covered under your comprehensive insurance. This insurance is optional, but highly recommended for many reasons which we will discuss.

Perhaps the most important reason to get comprehensive insurance is that your glass damage is covered as long as it wasn’t caused by an accident. This means that whether the damage was caused by hail damage, an accident, or a break-in, you can get your auto glass repaired or replaced under your coverage. Damage caused by accidents is covered under collision insurance, and you will most likely have to go to a body shop to get your repairs.

NO. That’s one of the best parts about comprehensive insurance! Making a claim will not affect your premiums whatsoever. If you make a lot of claims, your deductible can go up, but the majority of people who don’t abuse the system don’t experience this.

It’s easy, you don’t. Splashes is a Glass Express certified auto glass shop, which means that we are equipped to handle your claim for you from start to finish. Just bring us your vehicle, we’ll ask you a couple questions such as when the damage occurred, and if you write of your vehicle for tax purposes, and that’s it!

Rock chips smaller than the size of a loonie can and should be repaired. ICBC covers up to 3 rock chip repairs at no cost to the customer, you don’t even pay a deductible! The only restriction is that if the chip is in the drivers critical viewing area, the chip cannot be larger than ¼”. If the chip is in that critical viewing area for the driver, there is a chance that ICBC will not cover the repair, and you will need to have the windshield replaced instead (under coverage). Besides the viewing area restriction, this means that if you have a chip in your glass you can likely get fixed COMPLETELY FREE! Your windshield should only get replaced if you have cracks spreading, or your rock chip is too big to repair.

No, door glass and rear glass can’t be repaired because it is usually tempered glass, which is less resilient and is designed to shatter. Windshields are made in a way that we can fill the rock chips with a special resin that stops the spread of the cracks and returns the structural integrity (and therefore safety) to the windshield. Therefore, we will almost always replace glass that isn’t the windshield.

If it isn’t enough that rock chips are usually FREE to repair (or only $40 without comprehensive insurance), they also only take 20 minutes to complete. So rather than your vehicle being tied up for the time it takes to replace your windshield, you can drop by Splashes at any time and get your glass repaired on the spot (pending how busy our shop is of course!). Additionally, your windshield provides less protection if it is chipped, and chips tend to spread into cracks. Once the cracks spread, the glass must be replaced, and you’ll have to pay a deductible. Plus, you can get a ticket for driving with a cracked windshield! For all these reasons, we always recommend you get your windshield repaired as soon as possible.

Generally, if there is damage to the vehicle’s panels you will need to take it to a body shop. However, we can repair minor pieces such as mouldings, applique, and upholstery. If in doubt, bring your vehicle to us before you bring it to a body shop, and we’ll let you know if we can handle your repairs or if they need to be taken care of by a body shop.

No problem! ICBC covers the cost to reapply tint, subject to assessment and authorization.

ADAS calibration is also covered by ICBC, and our trained technicians complete the service in house. However, there are certain manufacturers that require their ADAS systems to be calibrated by the manufacturer themselves. Either way, we can take in your claim and if there is a dealership for your manufacturer in the Surrey Auto Mall, we can give the vehicle back to you calibrated.

However, if the your ADAS requires dealership calibration, and there isn’t one in the local area, you may still have to get the vehicle recalibrated after we replace your glass.

If you have loss of use coverage, you can get a rental vehicle for the day provided by ICBC. If you don’t, we have good rates on rental vehicles available for you. We also provide a local shuttle service if you don’t need to get very far.

ICBC handles sunroof damage differently, you must call dial-a-claim to get a claim number. Once you have this you can bring it to us, and we will upload photos and submit the pricing for your repair. From that point, your glass repair can be approved.
