Atira Women's Resource Society

Atira Women’s Resource Society is a non-profit organization that provides assistance and support to anyone who identifies and lives full time as a woman that has experienced or is currently experiencing gendered violence and misogyny. Atira recognizes the barriers and stigmatization faced by women who do not fit into society’s gender-binary system, and the violence, poverty, and discrimination they encounter as a result.

Their programs range from family care and health/wellbeing, to housing developments and outreach for those who need it. We’ve listed a few of their projects below for you to check out!

Housing Developments:

  1. Durrant Transition House (South Surrey)
  2. Olivia Skye (Vancouver)

Programs:

  1. The Family Project: Peace
  2. SisterSpace

The Outreach Van Program

Our Community Wash Partner program was an initiative created so that we could help support our local community in the White Rock & South Surrey Area. With AWRS having two branches, one of which is right here in South Surrey, we decided to work with them to highlight their Outreach Van Program; a program that serves hard-to-reach women in Surrey.

The Outreach Van Program runs fives days a week between 7PM-2:30AM and focuses on fostering and building relationships with street entrenched women. These women are provided referrals to housing, healthcare, shelters, one-to-one emotional support, and also provides them with essential items like warm food, snacks, blankets, jackets, and hygiene products. The Outreach Van can serve up to 30 unique women a night.

This program provides those in need with the basic essentials and support that everyone has the right to access to; this is where the funds from our Community Wash Partner Program will be allocated to!
